Gabriel Pizzorno

Gabriel H. Pizzorno is Senior Lecturer on History at Harvard University, where he directs the Program in Digital History and serves as faculty chair of the Digital Scholarship Group.

His work develops computational methods for turning messy, unstructured historical sources into structured data that machines can reason over, and builds the platforms that make that data usable. It draws on machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and knowledge representation, and is applied to material culture from medieval Europe to the Holocaust.

He is co-principal investigator of the Documentary Archaeology of Late Medieval Europe, whose platform received the Medieval Academy of America's 2022 Digital Humanities and Multimedia Prize. A multiple recipient of Harvard's teaching awards, his courses help students engage critically with the past while understanding both the power and the limits of computational methods.
